A man in Rongo Sub-County has been shot dead after killing a family dog, drinking its blood and chasing his family members with a machete.

The deceased, identified as George Otieno, also attempted to attack police officers who had intervened to rescue his family.

Trouble started when the 40-year-old man took a machete and started chasing his firstborn son before going to his mother’s homestead and butchering their family dog at Kaluoch Sub-location in Rongo Sub-County.

In a bizarre incident that has left his family members stunned, the man beheaded the dog and started drinking its blood.

Peter Okiring, the Rongo Sub-County Commander, said the man threatened to kill his family and chased them with a machete.

His family members were forced to flee to safety while his mother locked herself inside her house.

“His brother ran to the police station and reported the incident after which he was escorted by our officers to the home to arrest the suspect,” Mr Okiring said.

After spotting police officers, the man ran to his house and drew a machete and attempted to attack the officers.

According to the Rongo police boss, the man was asked to surrender but charged towards the officers with the weapon and was shot twice.

“The police also fired in the air to scare him away. He wanted to kill the police who was armed with a gun,” Okiring said.
